Green Policy

At The George & Heart we recognise the impact of our business on the environment and are committed to conducting the business in a way that ensures environmental sustainability.

We are undertaking the following actions to strive to responsibly lessen our impact on the environment wherever we sensibly can, by:

  • Factoring the environment in our everyday decision making at management meetings and with our Staff at weekly meetings.

  • Raising awareness and encouraging our staff to carry out more sustainable business practices by informing them at regular training sessions.

  • Recycling paper, newspapers, glass, batteries, fluorescent and long life bulbs, cans and cartridges.

  • Operating a ‘switch off’ policy for office staff to turn off computer equipment and printers when not in use.

  • Reducing our usage of harmful cleaning chemicals and replacing these with eco-friendly products wherever possible.

  • Reducing our usage of paper by messaging our staff and colleagues electronically and only using paper when absolutely necessary.

  • Encouraging our guests to explore the local area by public transport, bicycle or on foot by providing information on walks, cycle routes and cycle hire information and bus and tube timetables at Reception. We will provide walking maps to local attractions in our room directories.

  • Only use Biodegradable or reusable straws in our cocktails -we will not offer straws with any other drinks

  • We will only use the glass wash machine once it is at capacity in order to save energy.

We will continue to:

  • Use LED low energy light bulbs in public areas.

  • Monitor our energy consumption of gas, electricity and water.

  • Use electronic mail where possible to reduce the use of paper.

  • Turn off unnecessary lights and taps.

  • Buy in bulk.

We are working on projects to:

  • Use more organic produce, seasonal vegetables and local produce.

  • Use recycled paper for brochures.

  • Get involved in local community projects.

  • Use refillable bathroom products to reduce wastage.

We will always comply with the law in all our actions and will continuously review our policy to improve our environmental impact.

Green Policy for our residential guests

We would like to enlist the help of our guests in achieving our aims by asking them to:

  • Turn off lights when leaving the room.

  • Turn off the television when leaving the room.

  • Turn off taps.

  • Limit the use of air-conditioning or heating and turn it off when a window or door is open to the outside.

  • Leave newspapers out of the bins so they can be collected separately by the housekeeping staff.
